GUEST POST! By Sarah Keeling

I'm so excited to have our first guest blog post!  And one by someone I SO admire! We've been following each other's accounts on instagram for a while, have participated in the same Boerne Handmade Market, even tried to pull off a Small Business Saturday event together.  But this is the first time we've really worked closely.  When I made the call for models, Sarah gladly volunteered.  She chose to…

TRAVEL TEXAS (The Jersey Barnyard)

This was our third visit to The Jersey Barnyard, and it was still a little bit of a magical experience!   Yes, the drive is long.  And it can get a little dirty.  But where else can you enjoy all these cute farm animals, eat some Blue Bell ice cream, shop, and bottle-feed a calf and/or milk a cow?!  (And honestly, wouldn't you expect to have to watch your step…

Peggy’s on the Green

Everyone that lives here in Boerne knows the town is rich in history.  One big part of that history is Ye Kendall Inn.  Established in 1859, it started out as a homestead with extra rooms that the owners rented out to horsemen and stagecoach travelers.  Through the years (and many owners), the inn has been added to, modernized, and revived... being able to give its guests a homey but vintage…

You Do It Suet

Not that I ever poured grease/fat down our drains!  But, I can't tell you how much more I love making homemade seed cakes, rather than dealing with the hassle of containing and throwing away the leftovers! I discovered You Do It Suet several months ago, as they started following us on instagram.  I quickly took an interest in their product, their story, their mission. The first thing I noticed about…

TRAVEL TEXAS (Sea World San Antonio)

Even though this isn't a typical Travel Texas article, and we really didn't have to travel far to Sea World, I thought it should be highlighted for anyone that is looking for a cool travel destination.  And if you're an animal-lover like us, you'll want the scoop on these opportunities. The first time I saw the animal interactions offered was in an e-mail a few years ago.  Evan wasn't old…

Our Products in a New Shop (Shapeshifters)

I was approached by Shapeshifters a few months ago, with a sweet and enthusiastic e-mail.  I quickly learned all about this new business in Boerne, could see that the owners had a passion for other small local businesses, and knew a great partnership was going to unfold.   The owners, Hank and Pamela Hattoy, stopped by my shop one day for a visit and sampling.  And next thing I knew,…

Kendall County Jr. Livestock Show

We cuddled, we fed, we watered, we raised, we chose the show birds, and we processed the delicious chicken.  Ben and Nathan handled all the action in the ring.  And Ben was a pro (again) on the auction stage. Another broiler project in the books!           And what happened on auction day that was really exciting? I found out the day before that Petland was moving…

TRAVEL TEXAS (Christmas Edition: Waco)

Our first day in Waco was a long one! The weather was perfect for our first stop- a picnic in Cameron Park.  We sat and ate sandwiches under the trees and beautiful Texas sky. Then we walked on over to the zoo.  Economical to get in... and a sight to see!  The 52-acre Cameron Park Zoo was a delight.  We took our time.  We enjoyed the beautiful land, read about…

TRAVEL TEXAS (Christmas Edition: The Farmhouse at Stoney Hill Ranch)

I discovered and enjoyed another airbnb gem, nestled in some farmland just outside of Waco! After a three hour drive from Boerne, we pulled up to the gate to the property... and then up to the farmhouse.  We took a quick "Ooh!  Look at this!  Eek!  Look in here!" run-through of the house.  And then settled right in.     Through the french door entry, we walked straight into the…
